San Marcos' Redevelopment, United Airlines Begins Flights Out of Carlsbad, Sugarfish to Open in Little Italy + More

đź“° NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

Restaurant Row in San Marcos is getting a MASSIVE upgrade

The project, called “The Row,” is being built by Lennar Homes. This mixed-use development will combine the former Restaurant Row strip with the old Sears lot, where 261 residential units, 27,000 sq. ft of commercial space, and a one-acre park with pickleball courts will come together to form a brand new community in the heart of San Marcos. The project aims to create a more walkable, dense, and vibrant urban environment, aligning with the city's broader strategy of creating a downtown-style atmosphere in the North City area.

United Airlines begins flights out of Carlsbad

United Airlines has returned to McClellan-Palomar Airport (CLD) in Carlsbad as of March 30, 2026, marking its return to North County San Diego after an 11-year hiatus.
United will operate four daily flights (two round-trips) starting March 30, 2026:

  • San Francisco (SFO): Twice daily.

  • Denver (DEN): Twice daily.

  • Schedule: Initial flights are scheduled to depart at 7:30 a.m., with the last flight arriving at 9:50 p.m.

This move adds a second major carrier to the airport, joining American Airlines (which flies to Phoenix) and providing an alternative to flying out of San Diego International Airport (SAN).

Sugarfish is coming to San Diego

Sugarfish is opening its first San Diego location in Little Italy (2100 Kettner Blvd) in Spring 2026. Known for high-quality, "Nozawa-style" sushi, the 40-seat restaurant will offer its signature "Trust Me" omakase sets—typically priced under $60—with views of the harbor. This was my go-to spot when I lived in LA— simple, consistent, and delicious.

Head chef Aidan Owens also hosts live fish breakdowns at the Oceanside Fish Market, spotlighting lesser-known catches and inspiring others to embrace local seafood. Herb & Sea has been recognized by Eater, Thrillest, and The San Diego Union-Tribune. This place is by no means a hidden gem, but it deserves its flowers.
