Everything NEW or COMING SOON In San Diego 2026

Fairmont Manchester San Diego

Fairmont Manchester San Diego will be situated on the North Embarcadero of the San Diego Bay, directly across from the USS Midway Museum, adjacent to the cruise ship terminal, and within walking distance of the San Diego Convention Center and the Gaslamp Quarter. The hotel is part of a development transforming San Diego’s downtown waterfront with over five acres of green space and more than 1.7 million square feet of offices, retail, restaurants, public art and entertainment.

The 36-story glass tower will have 1,160 rooms, including 69 suites and Fairmont Gold, the brand’s hotel-within-a-hotel experience offering VIP service, exclusive lounge and private reception desk. Facilities will include a luxury spa and fitness facilities, rooftop pool and over 120,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor meeting space, including two 20,000-square-foot ballrooms.

The Admiral Point Loma

Thorsen’s latest aspiration is to transform seven overgrown and (mostly) vacant acres and five time-warped 1920s Liberty Station buildings at along Rosecrans Street and Dewey Road—once the site of NTC’s coveted officers’ quarters—into The Admiral: a grand grouping of distinct venues set amid sprawling gardens with sweeping views of the San Diego skyline and the tip of Point Loma.

The Admiral will comprise a restaurant, canteen, game room, an event venue, and a cocktail bar, each with its own take on a 1920s-1940s theme. It’ll be the feather in Liberty Station’s cap, perched on high ground as a jaunty and distinguished addition to one of San Diego’s favorite destinations.

“It feels right,” Thorsen said. “It’s a perfect complement to all the great things that are already here.”

Sugarfish is coming to SD

Sugarfish Sushi

You read that right. Sugarfish will be opening its first San Diego location in Little Italy come Spring 2026.  Sugarfish will be offering all of the crowd favorites, from four set meals, hand rolls, cut rolls, nigiri, sashimi and edamame. While we all might already have our go to sushi spot, Sugarfish is hoping to standout by bringing a more casual, quick sushi option that doesn’t come with a giant price tag.

Midway Rising Sports Arena

The plan is to replace the original Pechanga Arena (which currently seats about 14,000) with a new 16,000-seat stadium, along with 2,000 affordable apartments, 2,250 market-rate apartments, 130,000 square feet of shops and restaurants, and 14.5 acres of parks and public space.

Christina Bibler, director of economic development for the City of San Diego, is excited about the project’s potential effects. “Just the sheer magnitude and size of a 48-acre parcel that is going to [have a ton of housing units and create many] jobs—it will be legacy-leaving for Midway,” she says. “[We’re looking at] more amenities, increased revenue, and the revitalization of a site that hasn’t really been revitalized since the mid-1960s.”
